The Manatee is a different way to discover the incredible Amazon rainforest on which you will travel by the river onboard of a comfortable boat visiting unique places rich on wildlife and culture. On this cruise you will be crossing through amazing protected areas such as the Yasuní National Park, Limoncocha Biological Reserve integrating tourism, education and sustainable development.
The Manatee Amazon Explorer is located in the northern Ecuadorian Amazon region. To get there you will fly for 30 minutes from Quito to Coca crossing different ecosystems from the paramo of the highlands to the amazon rainforest on Ecuador jungle. From here you will travel on Napo river by a motorized canoe for 2 hours trip.
This boat offers accommodation for 30 passengers in comfortable double cabins with private bathrooms, air conditioning, shower massage and large windows that allow you to enjoy the beautiful and constantly-changing scenery. It also offers guest a dining room with delicious national and international dishes, a main lounge with internet and library.

FOUR DAYS – THREE NIGHTS ITINERARY
DAY 1 - FRIDAY: QUITO – COCA – YASUNÍ NATIONAL PARK
Departure from Quito in the morning, to board the flight to Francisco de Orellana (Coca), which arrives at Coca after a short 30-minute trip. Afterwards, there will be a transfer from the airport to the Napo River port, where a motorized canoe will take you downstream for approximately one and a half hours; during the trip we will provide important information about the region. Once on board the MANATEE AMAZON EXPLORER, we will start navigating down the Napo River. Lunch will be served and later on we will stop at the Life Under Water Museum and will return onboard after a night walk, for dinner. Everything will depend on the river water level, weather conditions, wildlife behavior, and accessibility to the location.

DAY 2 - SATURDAY: SANI WARMI - OBSERVATION TOWER
We will visit the Sani Warmi Kichwa Interpretation Center, where a group of Kichwa women will speak of their customs, cuisine and everyday life. They have created the center in order to showcase their culture, and it is a unique opportunity to learn about Amazonian lifestyles along the Napo River. You will also have the opportunity to buy crafts, local products and souvenirs.
In the afternoon, visit an observation tower 100-feet high, built against a giant kapok tree. From the top of the tower, we will be blessed with this unique perspective of the forest, looming over the treetops and the greatness of the Amazon Basin.

DAY 3 - SUNDAY: YASUNI NATIONAL PARK - YAKUKAWSAY
Breakfast on board. During this special walk within the Yasuni National Park, we will seek out the secret to Amazonia’s amazing biodiversity. Our expert naturalist guides will lead us through this veritable Garden of Eden, telling us about the wonders of the floral and faunal communities that make it so special...
After lunch, we will make a stop at the Yakukawsay Kichwa Interpretation Centre, and end with an interesting evening walk through the forest (depending on accessibility, river water levels and weather conditions).

DAY 4 - MONDAY: RETURNING HOME
In the morning, disembark the M/V Manatee and transfer by motorized canoe to Coca (1 ½ hour ride); flight to Quito.

FIVE DAYS – FOUR NIGHTS ITINERARY

At dusk, our first live experience with the Ecuadorian Amazon basin will begin (night walk, visit to a native house or canoe ride will depend on the river level, climatic conditions, wildlife behavior and accessibility to the location).

DAY 2 - TUESDAY: BORDER WITH PERU (THE HEART OF YASUNI)
After a delicious breakfast, we disembark on land for our first daylight close-and-personal tropical rainforest experience, where we will learn about the relationship between plants and animals while closely watching out for samples of Amazonia’s fascinating biodiversity at every turn. After lunch, the M/V Manatee navigates to one of the most pristine and little explored sections of Ecuadorian Amazonia, home to the legendary pink river dolphin, black caiman and anaconda. We may also find river turtles and various species of monkeys, as well as the primitive Hoatzin, a one-of-a-kind bird locally known as "the Stinky Turkey". The only way to actually visit this flooded ecosystem is by canoe, a ride that will reveal the beauty of a lush jungle world.

Day 3 - WEDNESDAY:MEETING THE COMMUNITY - ACTIVITIES ON BOARD - ISLAND EXPLORATION
Breakfast on board. We visit a school located on the banks of the Napo River, where we will have the opportunity to interact with children of the area and learn about the educational system of a remote jungle community in Ecuador.
We return on board the M/V Manatee for lunch and a moment to relax while we navigate upstream. We will offer a lecture and documentary screening, and if time permits, learn about (and make) typical handicrafts of the area. In the afternoon, we explore one of the largest river islands of the Napo River.

DAY 4 - THURSDAY: PARROTS’ CLAY LICK OR WATER MUSEUM AND LIMONCOCHA BIOLOGICAL RESERVE
Breakfast will be served on board. Then we will begin our excursion to the Parrot Clay licks, a great place to see a lot of bird species or we will begin our excursion to the Yaku Kawsay or live underwater museum, inside of the Yasuní National Park, a very interesting project from one of the Kichwa Communities that shows the fauna that lives underwater in the Amazon rivers and lakes. Back on board our lunch will be ready, and in the afternoon, there will be a visit to the Limoncocha Biological Reserve, an incredible area to find lots of birds, some monkeys, and at night a search for the black caiman. Return to the MANATEE at night.

DAY 5 – FRIDAY: RETURNING HOME
Return to the city of Coca to take the morning flight back to Quito. The canoe ride upstream will take around two hours.
